Did any of you 70s babies make this with mom when you were growing up? I have tried to find it online but had to fall back on the cut out recipe from an old, well I’m not sure where it came from. It’s called, Yummy Easy Candy” and consists of some ingredients that might make your head hurt today.
Yummy Easy Candy
1 lb of powdered sugar
3/4 stick of butter, softened
1 ts vanilla
1 pinch of salt
1 tb of milk
Mix it all up in a bowl and roll into balls. Yikes. They melt in your mouth like a little taste of heaven, but then you realize you’re eating a spoonful of sugared butter.
Anyway, I made this today to share with my mom and sister. Mom had documented it in her recipe collection and it looks like we first made it in May of 1977. I was a wee lass and my sis, even wee-er. Oh the memories of making this, sharing special times with family and fighting over the spoon to lick. Then after eating about 10 of these little drops of death, plopping down on the couch after the sugar crash to watch Scooby Doo re-runs.
I am extremely grateful for a mother that cared so much for her daughters and made sure to take time out of her busy work schedule to learn together, laugh together and play together. Those early years will always have a special place in my heart, amidst cookie sheets covered in our little sugary treats.
And no, there is no photo of these today…they look plain disgusting! 🙂
