Day 86 – chocolate sludge…

My work peeps are used to seeing this thick, beautiful, chocolate sludge sitting on my desk every morning. I’m ready to share with you my very special and delicious breakfast shake that I have every single day! And yes, it involves a huge scoop of seductive chocolate in the form of raw cacao powder for antioxidants and vital brain function, a banana for energy, peanut butter for protein to keep me satiated and some other goodies to up the nutrition factor. This, ladies and gents is how I have made it through Lent, sugar free! Just knowing I get to wake up each day and have this has gotten me through an otherwise extremely tough battle to give up sugar. Usually the banana gives just enough “sweet” to make it palatable, but on occasion, I have had to spike it with a touch of stevia. Or during non-Lent times, a spoon of coconut sugar. My other love. 🙂
My employer should also appreciate the plug for our products. 🙂 In my “other life”, I am Executive Assistant/Party Planner/Accountant for Eco-Products, where we make biodegradable foodservice items, including this lovely clear cup made of corn holding my “daily bread” today.

Kathleen’s Best Breakfast Shake

2 heaping tablespoons raw cacao powder (or organic cocoa powder will work great)
1/2 c to 3/4 c water (depending on your desired thickness or replace with milk)
1/2 c plain, full fat yogurt (greek or organic is preferred)
1 ripe banana
1-2 tb organic peanut butter
1 tb ground flaxseed
1 tb chia seed

You can add coconut milk for a creamier texture and be sure to play with the thickness, adding more or less water, more or less yogurt.
But I will guarantee you, it will give you “oomph” for the day, and lots of good nutrients that your body needs in disguise of a “dessert”.

That’s my special secret of the day and I wish I had another one for lunch. 🙂
