I am a sugar addict. I am also a certified holistic health coach, which means I’m not practicing what I preach and that’s harder to admit than the addiction. Lent seemed to be the perfect timing this year to give up my “vice” of afternoon dates with a bag of M&M’s or a steamy cup of hot cocoa. Now don’t get me wrong; for the most part, I usually make my hot cocoa out of natural ingredients and steer away from the highest of highly processed sweets. I make my own gluten free cupcakes, pumpkin muffins, even caramel sauce for dipping apples. But still, sugar is sugar for the most part. In another post, I will discuss the differences between all the sugars and sugar substitutes out there.
But back to today. I made these brownies (sugar free mostly!) from a cute little gal who calls herself, Chocolate Covered Katie. Her blog is widely followed and she’s a brilliant chef in the natural and semi healthy arena. Most times she has recipe adaptations to make things gluten free, sugar free, vegan or even soy free. http://chocolatecoveredkatie.com/2011/06/10/im-obsessed-with-this-dessert/#
Mine aren’t quite as pretty as hers, but they tasted awesome. I used the soy free version, and made with a small amount of maple sugar as in the sugar free version instead of real sugar. Oh yeah, and I made them gluten free! I can definitely live with myself if I eat these during my worst cravings, but I will still strive during this Lent time to change my habits and more importantly, re-acquaint my body and tastebuds with better things like an orange!
2nd house warming gift :p drool…Im going to try these!
Aw loved your post!
An honor to have you read my post, Chocolate Covered Katie!
